Mullet Run and Tarpon

Capt. Chris McCubbin
October 16, 2008
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

The last 10 days has been absolutely amazing in the Naples area. It all started with the big schools of glass minnows in the Clams Pass area. Tarpon, sharks, and mackeral were all going absolutely nuts on the bait. I was throwing mainly DOA Baitbuster at the tarpon, let if get below the macks and real slow. We hooked 8 fishing in two mornings up there.
The mullet have shown up in Naples and the tarpon are destroying them on the early morning and late afternoon outgoing tides. Freelined mullet are the ticket, but baitbusters and flies have been getiing there fair share of hookups. In the last few days we have had 11 fish eat baits. They are all big fish in the 100- 150lb range.
Snook fishing has been good with lots of nice fish around the docks and passes. The water has been low and unfishable the last few mornings in the back bays. Once we get over these early morning lows fish should be stacked up.
Now is a great time to be fishing and the weather is awesome. Give me a call and lets go fishing.
